| Cancun |
Cancun is an island approximately 16 miles long and a quarter-mile wide. It is situated in the state of Quintana Roo in the south-eastern part of Mexico off the northeast tip of the Yucatan peninsula, on the Caribbean coast right front of Isla Mujeres where Garrafon is located..
The Mexican Caribbean island is connected to the Mexican mainland by two bridges. Cancun has a resident population of over 300,000 persons and is divided into two main parts: El Centro, downtown of Cancun, is where most of the local residents live, and is home to many smaller hotels, restaurants and shops.
The famous Cancun Hotel Zone, the principal tourist area, is located on a 8 mile peninsula jutting out into the Mexican Caribbean Sea, and is where the luxury hotels and modern shopping malls are to be found. There are many reasons for the popularity of Cancun as a tourist destination including: its gorgeous beaches with clear turquoise waters, excellent resort hotels offering a full range of amenities and modern facilities, gourmet restaurants, vibrant night life, great shops, and nearby Mayan ruins.
Further, Cancun has great weather, with an average temperature of 80 degrees F (27 degrees C) and 240 days of sunshine each year, with little rain.
The Downtown has a non-stop party atmosphere and attracts numerous categories of visitors including families, seniors, students, couples, budget travelers and the rich and famous
